Asset & Precinct Categorisation

propella.civic applies a hierarchical taxonomy to the assets and precincts that have been defined by customers and uploaded into the platform as polygons.  This taxonomy seeks to categorise each polygon for the purpose of grouping common assets and precincts, and supports filtering and reporting.  The taxonomy categorises assets & precincts into 1) a main category, and then 2) a sub-category.

Main categories

Main categories provide the first level of the asset taxonomy, and have been defined as follows:

1 Buildings & Structures All polygons where the majority of the area is associated with built form Municipal buildings (libraries, community centres, etc.), structures within parks & reserves (e.g. pavilions, rotundas, playgrounds, kiosks)
2 Land, Parks & Reserves All polygons where the majority of the area would be classified as open space Municipal parks and reserves, council-owned land (non-reserve), sporting grounds, foreshore areas, council depots
4 Custom Precincts All polygons that do NOT readily fall into either Building or Land main categories Retail or community precincts (e.g. shopping centres, retail strips), roads, car parks, walkways, trails
